Elders & Friends Luncheon Club

Elders & Friends Luncheon Club

The Elders & Friends Luncheon Club is one of the Nigerian Community Greater Manchester’s longest-running and most valued community programmes. Held weekly at Nigerian House, the club provides a welcoming space where older members of our community can come together to socialise, enjoy a warm meal, share experiences, and build meaningful connections.

As people grow older, opportunities for regular social interaction can sometimes become limited. The Luncheon Club helps address this by creating a friendly and inclusive environment where members can stay connected, active, and engaged within the wider community.

Each gathering offers an opportunity to meet old friends, make new connections, discuss current issues affecting the community, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage that brings us together. The atmosphere is informal, supportive, and designed to promote wellbeing, companionship, and community spirit.

What We Offer

  • Weekly social gatherings in a welcoming environment
  • Freshly prepared refreshments and shared meals
  • Opportunities to meet and connect with fellow community members
  • Cultural discussions, storytelling, and heritage sharing
  • Information and signposting to relevant community support services
  • Special guest speakers, health awareness sessions, and community updates throughout the year

Why It Matters

The programme plays an important role in reducing social isolation, promoting wellbeing, and ensuring that older members of our community remain connected and supported. It also provides an opportunity for younger generations to learn from the experiences, wisdom, and cultural knowledge of those who have helped build and sustain our community over many decades.
