How NCGM is run
A volunteer Executive Committee
NCGM has no paid staff. The organisation is led by an Executive Committee of volunteers drawn from the membership, who take on the running of the organisation alongside their own work and families. The Committee is responsible for NCGM’s programmes, its finances, its partnerships, and its representation of the Nigerian community in Greater Manchester.
Committee members hold defined responsibilities — chairing, secretarial and record-keeping duties, finances, events, welfare and outreach — and meet regularly to plan and review the organisation’s work.
The Executive Committee is separate from NCGM’s board of trustees. The trustees are registered with the Charity Commission and hold legal responsibility for the charity; the Committee manages its day-to-day running.
Accountable to the membership
NCGM is a membership organisation, and the Committee answers to its members. General meetings at Nigeria House are where members hear what has been done in their name, raise concerns, and decide which priorities matter most. Any member can attend, speak and vote. This is deliberately the mechanism by which the community, rather than the Committee, sets NCGM’s direction.
The volunteers behind the programmes
Beyond the Committee, NCGM depends on a wider body of volunteers who cook and serve at the Luncheon Club, steward events, welcome newcomers, and keep Nigeria House running. Much of what appears on this website as a programme is, in practice, a group of people giving up a Saturday.
If you would like to serve, on the Committee or as a volunteer, email enquiries@ncgm.org.uk.
Working with the Nigeria High Commission
NCGM works alongside the Nigeria High Commission in the United Kingdom, and Nigeria House has hosted consular activity for the community in Greater Manchester, including passport intervention exercises that spared residents a journey to London. That relationship lets us bring official services closer to the people who need them.
Honouring those who came before
Our elders are at the heart of NCGM. Meet the members of our Elders & Friends community and learn about the Luncheon Club.
