NCGM is dedicated to fostering unity and collaboration within the Nigerian community in Greater Manchester — promoting cultural heritage and creating opportunities for connection and support.
A community rooted in connection and care
The Nigerian Community Greater Manchester (NCGM) serves Nigerians and friends of Nigeria across the region. We foster cultural unity and support for all through community programmes and collaboration with the Nigeria High Commission.
Our work is guided by leadership and a shared vision — promoting cultural heritage, strengthening community bonds, and enhancing opportunities for growth and development for everyone who calls Greater Manchester home.
80 years of community in Greater Manchester
Nigerian Community Greater Manchester has served the Nigerian community since 1945 – over 80 years of continuous activity supporting Nigerians and friends of Nigeria across Greater Manchester. The community was founded in 1945 and was formally incorporated as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2019, registered with the Charity Commission (No. 1186245). NCGM continues this long-standing tradition of community, culture and care today.
What we are here to do
NCGM exists to relieve poverty, distress, and hardship within our community; to support those affected by age, ill health, disability, or unemployment; to promote Nigerian art, culture and heritage for the public benefit; and to advance education in Nigerian culture and language. These are our registered charitable objects, as filed with the Charity Commission (No. 1186245).

To bring Nigerians and friends of Nigeria together — celebrating culture, supporting those who need it, and building a welcoming, inclusive community across Greater Manchester.

Working with the Nigeria High Commission
NCGM collaborates with the Nigeria High Commission to support Nigerians and friends of Nigeria in Greater Manchester — extending the reach of our cultural, social and community work.
A registered charity in England and Wales
Charity registration
Nigerian Community Greater Manchester is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 11 November 2019, charity number 1186245. Our full entry, including governing document, trustee details and annual accounts, is public and can be viewed on the Charity Commission register.
Registration means our finances and trustees are a matter of public record, and that we are accountable for how donated money is spent. No trustee receives any remuneration, payment or benefit from the charity.
What we exist to do
Our charitable objects, as registered, are to relieve and combat poverty, distress, financial hardship and sickness; to relieve those in need by reason of youth, age, ill health, disability, unemployment or other disadvantage; to promote Nigerian art, culture and heritage for the public benefit; and to advance education for the public benefit in Nigerian culture and language.
Every programme described on this site sits under one of those four objects.
How we are governed
NCGM is governed by a board of trustees and run day to day by an Executive Committee of volunteers drawn from the membership. The organisation has no paid staff and depends on its volunteers.
Members hold the Committee to account at general meetings held at Nigeria House, where they can attend, speak and vote on the organisation’s priorities. We maintain published policies covering safeguarding, complaints handling, conflicts of interest, financial controls, risk management and volunteer management.
