What We Do

Programmes that bring the community together

From cultural celebrations to social support and the Elders & Friends Luncheon Club, our programmes create connection, care and belonging across Greater Manchester.

NCGM celebrates Nigerian heritage through community gatherings, festivals and shared traditions throughout the year. Our flagship event is the annual Nigerian Independence Day celebration — this year marking Nigeria at 66 on Saturday 10 October 2026 at Nigeria House — bringing together cultural performances, food and entertainment for the whole community.

Through our Fair Share programme, NCGM redistributes surplus food on a weekly basis to households across Greater Manchester’s Nigerian community and beyond, helping ease the pressure of rising living costs. Volunteers collect and distribute food each week, supporting families who need it most. To find out more or request support, contact enquiries@ncgm.org.uk.

Bringing people together through activities, meetings and shared initiatives.NCGM holds a monthly General Meeting, open to all members and friends of the community, on the second Sunday of each month from 4:00–6:00pm at Nigeria House. Meetings cover community updates, planning, and open discussion — a chance for every member to have a say in the direction of the organisation.

NCGM works to build harmony and understanding both within the Nigerian community and with the wider Greater Manchester public. We actively engage with Nigerian associations and ethnic groups across the region, working toward a more representative, inclusive community structure.

As a registered charity (No. 1186245), NCGM’s core purpose is to relieve poverty, distress and hardship in our community; support those affected by age, ill health, disability or unemployment; promote Nigerian art, culture and heritage; and advance education in Nigerian culture and language — for the public benefit, not just our members.

A warm weekly gathering for older members of the Nigerian community, held every week at Nigeria House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE. The Luncheon Club brings elders together over shared food, conversation and companionship, with dedicated inclusion support so that no one is left alone. Open to all elders in the community — to get involved or arrange support, contact us at enquiries@ncgm.org.uk.
