Many older Nigerians living across Greater Manchester face challenges that often go unseen. Retirement, bereavement, health concerns, reduced mobility and distance from extended family can all contribute to loneliness and social isolation.
The NCGM Elders & Friends Luncheon Club was established to provide a welcoming environment where older members of our community can remain connected, active and supported.
Held every Monday at Nigerian House, the programme brings together elders from different backgrounds and generations to share meals, participate in social activities and maintain meaningful relationships within the community.
More Than Just Lunch
The Luncheon Club is designed to promote wellbeing, inclusion and friendship.
Participants benefit from:
- Regular social interaction
- Cultural activities and discussions
- Light recreational activities
- Community updates and information sharing
- Signposting to local support services
- Opportunities to contribute their knowledge and experience
For many attendees, the weekly gathering provides an important opportunity to reconnect with friends, meet new people and remain actively involved in community life.
Preserving Experience and Heritage
Our elders carry invaluable knowledge, memories and cultural traditions.
Through storytelling, mentorship and intergenerational engagement, the Luncheon Club helps ensure these experiences continue to inspire younger generations of Nigerians growing up in Greater Manchester.
